CHICAGO, IL – Conlon Public Strategies, one of the Midwest’s leading consulting and public affairs firms, is pleased to announce that respected civic leader and visionary Barbara A. Lumpkin has joined the firm as executive vice president.
Lumpkin is a transformational leader, whose record of accomplishments spans diverse sectors, including nonprofits, financial services, business, and government. Before joining Conlon Public Strategies, Lumpkin served as the interim president and CEO for the Chicago Urban League, leading efforts that generated more than $5 million in support for the Urban League’s vital programs and services. As deputy CEO and executive director for external partnerships at Chicago Public Schools, Lumpkin secured more than $100 million in support for schools and students.
In addition to serving in executive positions at prominent Chicago banks such as Northern Trust, Lumpkin made history as the first woman appointed comptroller for the City of Chicago and the first African-American woman to serve as city treasurer. She has earned national recognition for her work in these and other finance and leadership positions for the City of Chicago, including budget director, special assistant to the mayor, city treasurer, and chief procurement officer.
A recipient of numerous awards for her civic leadership, Lumpkin has served on nonprofit boards of directors including the Chicago Horticultural Society and the Leadership Council of the United Negro College Fund (UNCF), Chicago Chapter. She was a principal collaborator in the establishment of World Business Chicago and has served in leading roles for initiatives including the Chicago-Gary Regional Airport Pact, renovation of Soldier Field, and renaming of White Sox Park. Lumpkin is especially passionate about her ongoing work with the Chicago Children’s Advocacy Center, a nonprofit organization she worked with Mayor Richard M. Daley to found. Since 2001, the ChicagoCAC has provided a coordinated front-line response to reports of child sexual abuse to ensure the safety, health and well-being of more than 38,000 abused children.
“We are incredibly fortunate to have Barbara Lumpkin join the Conlon Public Strategies team,” said Kevin Conlon, Founder and President of Conlon Public Strategies. “She has been a friend for more than 20 years, and I have always admired her exceptional talents and character. Our clients are facing unprecedented challenges, but, with Barbara’s wealth of experience and proven approach, our team has never been better prepared to help our clients creatively navigate these uncertain times and position their organizations for success and sustainable growth.”
